Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday began arriving at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja for its 102nd National Executive Committee meeting.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at 2 pm, is expected to be attended by governors, former ministers, and other prominent figures, including the ex-Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, and the former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana.

According to a post on the party’s official 𝕏 handle, the NEC will deliberate on the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the November 15–16 national convention slated for Ibadan, Oyo State.

The atmosphere at Wadata Plaza, the PDP headquarters, was charged as members sang and cheered on the arrival of party chieftains. The session is viewed as part of renewed efforts to reposition the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Today’s meeting reflects the PDP’s shared vision and determination to deliver for Nigerians in 2027,” the party stated.

Zoning Formula Retained

The zoning committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, with Zamfara’s Dauda Lawal as vice chairman and Plateau’s Caleb Mutfwang as secretary, was inaugurated in July to share the 19 National Working Committee positions between the North and South.

At last Thursday’s PDP South stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, leaders resolved to allocate the Deputy National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary to the South-South, the National Secretary and National Auditor to the South-West, and the Deputy National Secretary and Financial Secretary to the South-East.

With the support of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the National Secretary slot was micro-zoned to Oyo, while Akwa Ibom secured the Publicity Secretary position.

The current Acting National Working Committee, led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, will end its tenure in December.

To avoid further cracks, the 101st NEC in July approved November 15–16 for the national convention in Ibadan. The exercise will be chaired by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, with Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as vice chairman and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as secretary.
